Healthchecks and reviews for employers

Employment tax legislation is ever changing, making it difficult for small and medium size businesses to stay up to date with their obligations. HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) carry out almost 30,000 Employer Compliance Reviews annually, if reporting obligations are not complied with, or if tax or NICs are found to be underpaid, then the business will be liable to settle the tax, often with addition of interest and penalties.

 At WMT we offer a Healthcheck Review, to offer businesses peace of mind and reassurance. Our reviews are undertaken by former Inland Revenue Inspectors, and will therefore focus on the key areas covered by HMRC during an enquiry, as well as any additional areas you would like covered. A typical Healthcheck will involve a walkthrough discussion of your systems and procedures and a sampled record review. We will then summarise our findings and advice to you in a written report. Our reviews include:

We will inform you of any issues found and will rectify these. If there are problems significant enough to warrant a disclosure to HMRC (bearing in mind the mitigated penalties that a voluntary disclosure brings), then we will work with you to mange this process.                                

But WMT’s Healthchecks are about much more than problem-finding. We see them as an opportunity to identify areas where savings in tax and NICs could be made by you and your employees, where administration and paperwork can be reduced and time saved and to look at exemptions and allowances which are not being fully utilised.
