Work we have done for our clients includes:
- A scaffolding company received a PAYE compliance visit from HMRC, who claimed that all self employed freelance workers were actually employees, giving rise to a 6 figure liability. We were engaged to show that there workers were not employees and HMRC agree that our interpretation was correct and the workers were indeed self-employed
- A small construction company was expecting a visit from HMRC, who were to challenge the status of their labourers and subcontractors. The company had no contracts or documented evidence to support why self employment was appropriate. Our team was quickly able to put in place contracts and other documentation reflecting the terms and conditions of self employment. All documents were accepted by HMRC and self employment agreed.
- A company applying for gross payment status was refused by HMRC because of an alleged poor compliance history, upon further investigation by our team, it transpired that HMRC’s information was incorrect and we were able to prove that many of the alleged “failures” should not have been taken into account. The company were subsequently awarded gross payment status.
- A large company was advised by HMRC that their gross payment status was to be removed because of a number of failures to pay PAYE, NICs and CIS deductions on time. The company believed it had a reasonable excuse as the failures were due to late payments from their own customers, who were predominantly Local Authorities, but this was rejected by HMRC. We appealed to the Tax Tribunal and set out in detail the grounds for our claim with witnesses and supporting evidence, and the Tribunal upheld the appeal and awarded gross payment status.
- Helped a group of UK individuals to invest in UK markets by advising on structure and implications of tax law and UK Financial Services Act
- Completed a property group de-merger
- Saved £350,000 VAT by identification and implementation of reduced rate supplies relating to property services.
